I really love the “Who will be the king of Hip-Hop?” tagline, because it shows how absolutely ignorant some of these “writers” and “editors” are. Let’s not even delve into the more obvious side of it, because either of them being the TRUE “king of hip-hop” is laughable. Top sellers maybe, but kings they are not.
My beef with all this comes down to a simple question really. Since when did album sales make anyone the king of hip-hop? In a time where labels are paying radio stations to spin their music four times an hour, buying their own artist’s albums to jack up their “billboard” position, and flat out owning satellite radio stations, there’s no such thing as a major label artist being king of anything based on album sales.
It’s gonna be interesting to see who wins in the end… Kanye or 50, 50 or Kanye? But really, they are still just two VERY well marketed, personable dudes who happen to rap pretty damn good. Oh and Kanye is a monster producer. Did I mention the white boys love him?
