Almost half-way into 2010, I haven't heard much that has surprised me coming out of the music industry.  These days you can pretty much assume what an album is going to sound like and what will be the focus of it's subject matter.  Enter Mississippi's Big K.R.I.T., who managed to change all that for me.  KingSoul, the homie over at KonsoleKingz told me to check this guy out quite a few times in the past, and in all honesty I did exactly what K.R.I.T. said people have been doing since he got into this. I moved right along and didn't download the album.  Guilty as charged.

20 seconds into the first track thought, I think Big K.R.I.T. did exactly what he made this album for.  I felt like I was punched in the face two hundred times for not knowing.  Mission accomplished K.R.I.T.  This day I learned a valuable lesson, don't let the music industry make you calloused, because chances are it will cause you to overlook some of the illest music you'll hear all year, or get a nasty upper cut from it.  Thanks K.R.I.T., you taught me a very valuable lesson today.

K.R.I.T. Wuz Here is quite possibly one of the illest albums by one of the most talented artists I've heard so far in 2010.  If you don't know already, I'm huge (pause) into soulful music with a message.  I'm also into creative albums with continuity that take you on sweeping highs and lows, with good stories and great production.  This album has all of that.  Big K.R.I.T. wrote and produced (seriously listen to that production) this entire album and I would have GLADLY paid $17 for this twice over out of complete respect and appreciation.  But it's free, so make sure you download this album, bump it everywhere you go, tell your friends and take heed my fellow hip-hop fans, Mississippi definitely has something to say.  Trust me on this one, you want to download this album.

This is probably one of my favorite Stat Quo albums to date.  Yeah all of them have been free and at times Stat can be hit or miss on some of the tracks.  But they are free albums, I'm sure alot of stuff he just knocks out in the studio on a whim.  But to be completely honest this is the most solid of all of his free albums I've heard so far.  And if this is any indication of what we can expect from his upcoming official, long awaited, highly anticipated, album Statlanta slated for this June, then that one is gonna be a banger well worth the $12.

Jeezy fliped the script on this one and went with Don Cannon over Drama but its still that fire that you would expect to follow up the certified hood classic Trap or Die.  If you don't feel it after listening to Ill'in ft. Clipse then...go kill yourself!

Still pissed I missed the show last night with these dudes opening for Reflection Eternal with Nametag and a live band.  All good though, I came in and found that they dropped their latest album today which is 100% FREE.   I actually started to write a list of my favorite standout joints on this album and typed out over half of the tracks on the album, which definitely makes this immediate copy-to-ipod-and-burn-to-cd-for-bumpin-in-the-whip status.  On a brief unrelated side note, I sometimes wonder if Detroit hip-hop makes NYC heads nervous.

Check out Street Justice on BandCamp (http://streetjustice.bandcamp.com) to cop this album and two other previous free joints of theirs.  Peep em on Twitter too.

BlackSmith doesn't take breaks it seems.  Check out this free album hosted by DJ Chaps to hold you over until Reflection Eternal's Revolutions Per Minute drops next month.  It's free and definitely worth the download and space on your ipod.

If you've listened to Khalifa in the past you probably understand he has a penchant for a more hipster approach to his music with street tendencies.  I don't mean that in a negative way, if I didn't like the album I wouldnt be sharing it with you guys.  With more rock/pop sounding tracks like "We're Done", Wiz still managed to deliver what seems to be his street alter ego spittin tough on tracks like "The Statement" and "Spotlight".

I like Wiz, not only because he does what he likes and makes good music,  but the fact he gave Warner Bros Records the bird to do his own thing.  Get it Wiz, you've got fans over here.

Freshly dropped a couple days ago, Danny Brown is in my top 5 list for favorite Michigan MC's of all time.  Yeah some of his production is quirky and his flow is real ragged.  But I like that about this dude's music.  Because you can judge him on the surface of things but when you listen to Danny Brown's lyrics, the metaphors he drops in some of these songs are re-goddam-diculous.

Danny Brown, one of my favorites.  We caught him live a while back at the HexMurda benefit last year.  Check the download  link, album stream, cover art and track listing after the jump! Read the rest of this entry »

You know any time we post albums here, we have listened to them front to back and back again.  We don't regurgitate every album we get for the sake of internet traffic or kissin some rapper'ss ass for money or noteriety.  That's not how we do here.  So just know that when you see a free album posted here, it's gonna be something each of likes, appreciates and supports.

When I stumbled across an L.A. MC by the name of  Ayomari, I not only listened to this album from front to back, I listened to it in the whip, at home and on my iPod several, several times.   It's seldom that you find an album these days that's not only free, but also has you thinking to yourself  "damn this is my shit!"  You know that good feeling you get when you hear something for the first time.  The type of music  that you pop in your cd player and show all your friends but don't wanna tell em who it is or where to get it, because it's your "dirty little secret" and nobody else can have it but YOU.  You are the gatekeeper, none shall pass, mine, mine, mine... I will bask in this reflected glory and enjoy letting you hear the song while it plays.  But you just can't have a copy.  I'm in the special music club and you're not invited.

He mentioned something about how he's "back".  Hell I didn't know he came and left begin with.  Anyway, like I said before, kid really ain't all that memorable to be honest.  He's definitely a talented lyracist, but he seems to lack that fire.  You know the thing that makes someone's personality pop on the track and makes you wanna hear more?  He's got something, he just isn't all the way there yet.  I don't think you should sleep on Laws by any means, I just think he's got alot of life to live before he actually has some interesting shit to spit, but for now poor Laws is getting sonned by his beats.  Proof to the hip-hop haters out there that you must have natural talent to be a great rapper.  You can't just spit lyrics on hot ass production and expect to pop, because to me Laws just isn't.

Someone definitely spent a friggin grip on those beats though...

Another mixtape that's only called a mixtape for legal reasons, but is really an album.  I would have EASILY paid money for this joint, wouldn't you?

B.o.B., you guys killed it on this one.  I have to admit I slept on "F**k the Money" when it was leaked a while back, and I'm now regretting not believing in the Bobness.   His first official label release is supposed to drop May 25, 2010 but I've already heard rumors that it's already been pushed up to April.

Great album B.o.B., this is the type of creativity that keeps us motivated to keep doing HoodHype.  Just damn good music.
