So we talked about it last episode, the Return of 4Eva tour was coming to Michigan and we couldn't miss it. We knew we were going to see Big K.R.I.T., Smoke DZA, Jackie Chain and Freddie Gibbs, but we didn't hear about Mookie Jones. So after seing him put on a hell of a set, we had to take a moment to get to know Mookie, what he's about and his music.   So a sip of the Grand Marnier and a few pulls later we did just that. Here's how it went down.

Cop Mookie's album Tuskegee Vol.1 @ Dat Piff and keep your eyes peeled for that upcoming PAN mixtape.

There's actually a little bit of a story behind this disjointed ass video.  When I got to the A3C festival and linked up with KingSoul over at KonsoleKingz (an incredibly cool group of individuals I might add, shouts to Maya, Alisha, Jamal, Sergio and CJ), I was just off the plane, still trying to get my bearings and for some reason those Atlanta trees had my eyes burning like someone poured alcohol on them, and I don't even have allergies.  Anyway, we decided to head over to the New Era flagship store where they had a meet and greet with Laws and Killer Mike, I also saw Stalley walkin' around in there too.  So when while I'm just snappin' footage, Mike was right there and CJ asked "you gonna interview him?" so I said "fuggit, I'll just try to run an interview" knowing full well I'm not nearly the interviewer Major is.  So all I could come up with was two questions, the first one was full of me sniffing and shit which is why you don't hear me asking the first question.

And being that Mike had to get in the store I tried to make it quick as possible.  Had I known I was going to have an interview opp, I would have tweeted to all of you and tried to field questions.  Like I said, I'm not an interviewer, I leave that shit to the pros.  Later that night, back at the A3C festival I got some sick footage of Immortal spittin' on stage hard, which is what you see after my mini-half-assed-interview.  So this is what came of all of it.

Big shouts to Laws, Joe Baker and Orlando btw.  GREAT people.

On Episode #124 of the show (recorded last Thursday) we wanted to get Jay Rock on to talk about his recent signing with Tech N9ne's Strange Music label.  That's a HUGE look for independent music to take an artist straight from the belly of the beast (Warner Brothers) and and sign them on an independent label.  That's like snatchin' up the homecoming queen from her man without even trying.  \

Jay spoke on how he had a few other label offers, his touring, signing and touring with Tech, his fans and Jay's group Black Hippy.

Our Interview with Jay Rock

Also, here's the Tech N9ne interview Major was talking about in this interview.

Not sure that I agree that he's one of the biggest breakthrough artists of 2010.  But many wishes for Gibbs' continued success, I just get the feeling he doesn't give a damn about much of anything.  I could be dead ass wrong, just my opinion.

Here's Gibb's new single "Something New"

In Chicago for the Heineken Inspire show at The Ravenswood Event Center, spoke with J.Cole about his recent video and his upcoming album.   J.Cole is gonna be something else.  On one side, you've got the rappers who work so hard at making buzz and marketing and handling "business" they forget the people who are listening, and then you have a few laid back in-the-cut type dudes like this who let their creativity speak for itself.  I haven't seen any b.s. over-the-top Diddy marketing, I haven't seen any annoying MTV commercials for his upcoming album, and most importantly he doesn't have a crew of thirty other people trying to get on, flooding him off the stage.

You can't say "J.Cole is the next [insert influential artist name here]" because this kid's in a lane all his own.

One of the most underrated indie hip-hop producers of our time, without question.   Im a HUGE fan of Oddisee, so it's sad to hear he's done with the Odd Season series, but good to hear he's comin' with new material.    With everything from A Rosenberg Oddisee to Odd Summer, this dude has put out some of the hottest music to come out of DC in a while, let alone the indie scene.
