The 90's were my golden era, as everyone's high school and college years usually are. The Fresh Prince of Bel Aire, Nintendo (aka NES), Saved By The Bell, Michael Jordan and Used Jeans. The 90's were also a revolutionary time for rap music, so I can't help but feel nostalgic when I hear music that reminds me of my younger years. For that reason, I'm absolutely a fan of hip-hop's "Golden Era" by default. That isn't the only reason however. Especially when most rap music we hear on the radio today sounds cheap and superficial by comparison to music from that era. Does that mean we're "trapped in the 90's"? In order to answer that, allow me to qualify the question by explaining its origin.

Big K.R.I.T.
has been putting in work since 2005, but the majority of hip-hop listeners weren’t formally introduced to K.R.I.T. until 2010, when his album K.R.I.T. Wuz Here made its way around the internet. With its heavy use of chopped soul samples, backed by thumping 808, KWH put Big K.R.I.T. squarely on the hip-hop map and showcased his skills as both a potent lyricist and producer. Personally, KWH along with Wiz’s Kush & OJ provided me with the soundtrack for my spring/summer, and etched K.R.I.T. onto my ‘Must Watch’ list of new MC’s, which doesn’t happen too often these days given hip-hop’s recent track record. Billboard just launched a new chart system to rank "breakout" artists.  Although it sounds like a great idea on the surface, it will most definitely cause more harm than good to the independent music industry.  Here are a couple of reasons why it's a bad idea for Billboard to get involved with indie music this way... With the constant flood of free music out there these days, it seems like it's getting increasingly difficult for fans like you and I to find the best stuff in a sea of  shit music floating around the internet.   So I decided to put to gether a list of my Top 5 favorite spots for free hip-hop albums on out there.  Unbiased?  Probably not, but if you check out these sites, you're apt to find a TON of good stuff guilt, lawsuit and RIAA-fine free.  Hope you enjoy it!
