So what’s changing?
In short, everything.   Rest assured we’re keeping the best of everything in place. And yes, Phro and JMack are still on the show (we’ve heard a few people asking)  When Major parted ways with the show, we decided to look at this new situation as a positive opportunity to completely revamp the show, “the basement” (our recording studio), our segments and the way the show is delivered (amongst many, many other things).

We’ve spent the last five weeks going through every aspect of the show. After going through our entire seven year history and studying past episodes to find what worked and what didn’t, we all sat decided to have a meeting of the minds a week later.   We disassembled and then reassembled the entire show from top to bottom.  Some of the product of those discussions and meetings is discussed below and will be revealed in the coming days, weeks and months.

Mark your calendars friends, we’re back March 29th at 8pm Eastern.

The Changes

New host
We’re excited to welcome our new friend MOLA1 to the family. From this point forward he will be steering the ship during live shows, running on camera interviews, assisting with production and much more.  MOLA1 brings a vast knowledge of hip-hop music, a passion for working on this show and an undying love for the culture. We’re very excited to have him on board.

The Segments
We’re keeping your favorites (like Blend It or Bump It and StashBox) but we’ve also started developing a few new ones as well. We’re very excited about that. Don’t miss an episode, we definitely have some new material coming.

The Basement
If you’re tuning into the live shows, right away you’re going to notice we’ve changed our entire layout and the way we operate the show.  We’re excited because the changes we’ve made will allow us to work more efficiently and ultimately provide a better show for you. We’re also adding a couple new friends: the “Stash Cam” and the “Blend It or Bump It” cam.

More content
We want to focus on getting more interviews,  catering more to the music, the culture and the underground scene. We want to bring more video footage, more performance footage, and deliver the best parts of the show to you on your favorite platforms like the iPhone, Android, YouTube, Facebook and more. In the coming weeks, we’re going to be very focused on syndicating our show footage and audio everywhere.

Bringing it back to the music
Those of you who have been listening over the years may have noticed a subtle shift in recent years toward more political and pop culture discussion.  Admittedly, we unintentionally strayed from the path and to be honest, became complacent with producing the show.  Our most successful years were during the times we focused on the music,  culture, interviews and having fun on the show.  And that’s exactly where we want to get back to.  The music is why we’re here and the music is what we will make sure we focus on.

DETROIT:  On Saturday February 9^th, 2013 Detroit Yancey Media Group will host the second installment of Dilla Day Detroit, a worldwide celebration of the life and music of the late James ‘J Dilla’ Yancey, live from his hometown. This now two-day event will feature live performances from internationally acclaimed artists and musicians, as well as an open youth music expo on Sunday, February 10th, offering beat-making and other music workshops for youth taught by local and international artists and producers who worked closely with JDilla over the course of his career. A significant portion of the proceeds from Dilla DayDetroit will be directly donated to the re-formed J Dilla Foundation, resuming programming in late 2013.

A native of Detroit’s Conant Gardens, James ‘J Dilla’ Yancey succumbed to Lupus in the year 2006 at the age of 32. After his unfortunate passing, the Detroit Free Press, MTV.com, Source Magazine, Los Angeles Times and countless others published articles which hailed his short career of 12 years as one of the most prolific in the history of hip hop. From his work on chart topping singles for Common, The Roots, Erykah Badu, A Tribe Called Quest, Janet Jackson and more to his own genre-redefining solo releases, J Dilla’s work touched all.

This year’s Dilla Day Detroit performers will showcase J Dilla’s influences in hip hop(Royce Da 5’9″, Talib Kweli, Frank & Dank, Illa J) neo-soul (B. Williams Experiment)to classical orchestral arrangements (Miguel Atwood-Ferguson – Suite for Ma Dukes). Representing J Dilla’s influence on the DJ community, American hip hop & dance music legend, DJ Spinna will perform alongside the foremost advocates for Detroit hip hop, DJ House Shoes and 5E Gallery founder, DJ Sicari. Renowned Beat Junkie and Stones Throw Records artist, J-Rocc will also be performing a special guest DJ set. The concert will be hosted by Yo-Yo and Grap Luva. Special guests from , Fuse TV’s Crate Diggers, Bread-Breakers TV and more will be in attendance.

In celebration of Dilla Day 2013, an exciting partnership has been formed between Yancey Media Group / Ruff Draft Records and Delicious Vinyl Records. This week we asked if anyone still buys hip-hop magazines, the Manti Te’o Scandal and a whole lot more! A$AP Rocky’s “Long Live A$AP” was on the chopping block for Blend it Or Bump it! What’s your take?

Finally. Been wondering what these guys have been up to. We’ve been following A.DD+ for close to three years now and watched these guys evolve and grow, it’s been an amazing transformation. Big shouts to Slim and Paris for continuing to work and follow their dreams.

‘Can’t You See’ is a collaboration between Dallas rap group (and Red Bull Soundstage artists) A.Dd+ and producer NickNack. The video was directed and produced by OG of Luxury Mindz.

The song, which appears on NickNack’s album ‘State Machine’ and is available at Crowd Control Records and NickNack’s bandcamp page, came about when A.Dd+’s DJ Sober met up with NickNack in Austin during a Red Bull Thre3Style event. NickNack said he was a fan of the group and played a few beats. The end result was ‘Can’t You See,’ a head-bobbing tune with a soulful beat and sharp lyrics from rappers Paris Pershun and Slim Gravy.

A.Dd+ debuted their first album, ‘When Pigs Fly,’ in 2011 to wide acclaim, earning raves from Pitchfork Media and XXL. The group’s upcoming mixtape, ‘DiveHiFlyLo,’ drops January 26. A.Dd+ will celebrate the release with a performance at the Granada Theater in Dallas.

Independent music is rough around the edges and that’s okay.
