Race was a huge topic this episode and we aren't talkin' NASCAR. Between the Red Tails movie, MLK Day and Phro being back to the show, it got really racial in the basement this episode, (no finish line). We also reviewed Common's The Dreamer, The Believer for Blend It or Bump It, visited the Common vs. Drake beef and much more. Let's go!
We're back! We spun sick new music, we spoke with TRUTH Minista Paul Scott about the "liquid genocide" malt liquor, discussed Drake and the industry cosigning Kreayshawn based on numbers and Curren$y's Weekend At Burnies was on the chopping block for Blend It or Bump It. Loaded show this episode, listen now or download it for later!
Fiend was always one of my favorites from the No Limit era, so I was happy to see him re-emerge as part of Curren$y's JETS crew. Fiend's in-your-face, high energy style has clearly mellowed out over the past few years, and this song bares witness to his evolution. Fiend isn't alone on this laid-back jazzy cut though, as Big Sant and Smoke DZA chip in to give the song more flavor. This song can be found on the Life Behind Limo Glass mixtape, which you can cop here.
It seemed we were cursed by the technical difficulty demons this episode, but we still pulled through it. With the recent news of Osama bin Laden's death we strayed from hip-hop a little and spent quite a bit of time discussing cosnpiracy theories as well as trying to debunk them. BIG shouts to Illingsworth from Detroit CYDI for the #TeamMayo theme song!
Damn this remix should have been the original. Killa Kyleon is spittin that fire from Texas and Curren$y sounds more awake than I've heard him in a long time. This joint is apparently from Johnny Shipes (K.R.I.T.'s Manager) upcoming mixtape.
I liked the original joint okay, but I dig the energy Curren$y and Wiz breathe into the remix. Both of these cats fit the beat to a tee, sound like they should have been on the first time around.
This is the first single off Curren$y'sPilot Talk album, which drops June 15th. I'm curious to see what Dame does with Curren$y, and the recently reclaimed Roc-A-Fella brand. Some think Curren$y could be the new face of the Roc, as Dame tries to build it back up.
Curren$y continues to build that buzz, and you can't help but think Young Money missed out on this one. I mean, YM has a stacked roster, but Curren$y has a unique sound, and most importantly delivery, compared to most of the YM team. This cut is mellow as hell and can be found on the upcoming 24 Hour Karate School mixtape dropping March 30th.
Video for Smoke DZA's homage to the trees. J-Mack posted the track up a couple of weeks ago and it's been heavy in my rotation since. It's nice to get some visuals to go along with the music.
