Our first night at A3C Hip-Hop Festival, we caught up with a local cat Jon Connor for an interview to talk about his current project, his upcoming project and MC Breed resolution.  On a side note, I'd like to add that Jon Connor and his entire team are some of the most hard working, energetic, humble cats we've ever spoken to.  Even his manager Mateen Cleaves, former NBA player and college b-ball star, was extremely cool and down to earth.  So big shouts to the entire Blue City Club for being a humble crew out here workin' hard and showing us all what real dedication is all about.

Straight from your boy's home town, Jon Connor pays respect to the late great MC Breed and the F-L-I City, Flint town.  I gotta admit I was surprised to here Connor say "R.I.P. Flint Central".  A quick google search later and I found out it was true, they actually closed my old high school.  Messed up, I learned a LOT of things that public education can't teach you at that school.

UPDATE: We're DEFINITELY going to be discussing a pending lawsuit MC Breed's wife has started against Jon Connor for his use of this song.  Make sure you check out episode #147 of the HoodHype show to catch our discussion on it.

Much respect to Jon Connor.  He's about to put my hometown (Flint, MI) on the map bigger than anyone else whose done it.  MC Breed was the dude (R.I.P.) and Dayton Family was the truth (shouts to Bootleg and B.Smokes) but Jon Connor is getting more buzz outside of the city in a year than some of these artists have in their entire career.

Also, while I'm shouting out everyone and their cousin, MUCH respect to Big John Steak & Onion on Dort Highway (made it's debut music video appearance lol).  If you ever get a chance to hit Flint town or Lansing, MI, make sure you drop in and pick up a "super steak and cheese".  That's food touched by the hand of God...

Jon Connor is the most lyrically talented artist I've heard come out of my hometown since one of my past favorite up and comers Billy Smokes.  Flint, Michigan stand the hell up, this dude is about to put the city back on the map.  I still gotta post up this kids mixtape for you guys.  Respect to MC Breed.

Props to my lil sis Katie for sending this one over to me.

My hometown makes me so proud. Where could you stay at a Hyatt Regency hotel for less than a night at the Super 8. Obviously this commercial is from the 80's but even then $24 a night at a hotel like that was stupid cheap.  I remember that hotel was Flint's trophy building back in the day LOL! We used to skip school and ride the elevators and watch TV on the big screen in the penthouse lobby. *sigh* the good ole days.  That poor city has been beat down worse than Tina Turner.

Flint needs a new tagline.  "Flint, the new Gary Indiana"

Shouts to Gordie one of my new favorite bloggers.

Flint, Michigan
When most people bring up the city of Flint in hip-hop, it's pretty much guaranteed the first thing you'll hear come from their mouth is "MC Breed".  Outside of that, not too many people know much about the city's hip-hop scene.    Back in the day I remember going to the local record joints and picking up all kinds of music by local dudes and remembering how different their sound was from anyone else in the U.S. let alone Detroit.  I remember going to my favorite tape spots (thats cassette tapes for all you young'ns) Nick's Records and Tapes and Boomin' Records (my buddy D can probably recall I few others I can't remember at the moment) and seeing albums upon albums of local talent.  We'd just flip through countless tapes deciding which ones we wanted to stick in our pockets and which ones we would actually pay for. It was shocking how many of these artists there were who never got exposure on a national level which is mostly why we started the HoodHype show.

Any time I get a chance to listen to some old Flint hip-hop joints, I think about rolling down I-69 at dusk, chillin' with a few old coworkers over on DuPont St. (what up Antwan and Charles!?) and driving up and down the streets with nasty ass Buick City in the background churning out smoke and kicking out cars you rarely saw in the city that actually produced them.  Long nights of ball with friends (my boy D and our other friends would school the shit outta me religiously)  and the summer.  Rollin' up and down James P. Cole Ave when the "Cruise" was lit up in my 84' Cutlass Supreme (Brougham bitches).  Cars with dayton and LA wires and neon lights were the hot shit of the moment.  Summer nights like that people would park and pop their trunks on the side of the road and just chill.  Everyone would crowd around who was bumpin' the hottest shit at the moment.... damn I miss being a kid.....

So, today I was poking around in my collection and came across a few albums from one of my favorite groups out of Flint, Michigan, Top Authority which inspired me to put this together.  So if you have a few minutes, check out some local talent you may have never heard out of the city of FL-I-N-T after the cut.  And make sure you drop by their sites and show em some love.
