We had alot of fun with this one as we jumped in on music  Scarface vs VH-1, Dame Dash getting Roc back and more.  Everything was going great for yet another great episode of the HoodHype show, but when Scarface called in out of the blue to comment on the VH-1 situation, the show did an instant 360.  We talked to Face for damn near a half hour about everything from the VH-1 debacle, to Oprah, to paying for pum (lol).   Later in the show, we got to the "Stash Box" to taste a new brew, we talked about guilty music pleasures and brought back the almighty, "Blend it or Bump It" segment, which is always a good time.  If you have a CD you'd like featured on the segment, you can mail it to the address on our "Contact Us" page, whether it's mainstream or not!  Read the rest of this entry »

Almost half-way into 2010, I haven't heard much that has surprised me coming out of the music industry.  These days you can pretty much assume what an album is going to sound like and what will be the focus of it's subject matter.  Enter Mississippi's Big K.R.I.T., who managed to change all that for me.  KingSoul, the homie over at KonsoleKingz told me to check this guy out quite a few times in the past, and in all honesty I did exactly what K.R.I.T. said people have been doing since he got into this. I moved right along and didn't download the album.  Guilty as charged.

20 seconds into the first track thought, I think Big K.R.I.T. did exactly what he made this album for.  I felt like I was punched in the face two hundred times for not knowing.  Mission accomplished K.R.I.T.  This day I learned a valuable lesson, don't let the music industry make you calloused, because chances are it will cause you to overlook some of the illest music you'll hear all year, or get a nasty upper cut from it.  Thanks K.R.I.T., you taught me a very valuable lesson today.

K.R.I.T. Wuz Here is quite possibly one of the illest albums by one of the most talented artists I've heard so far in 2010.  If you don't know already, I'm huge (pause) into soulful music with a message.  I'm also into creative albums with continuity that take you on sweeping highs and lows, with good stories and great production.  This album has all of that.  Big K.R.I.T. wrote and produced (seriously listen to that production) this entire album and I would have GLADLY paid $17 for this twice over out of complete respect and appreciation.  But it's free, so make sure you download this album, bump it everywhere you go, tell your friends and take heed my fellow hip-hop fans, Mississippi definitely has something to say.  Trust me on this one, you want to download this album.

This is probably one of my favorite Stat Quo albums to date.  Yeah all of them have been free and at times Stat can be hit or miss on some of the tracks.  But they are free albums, I'm sure alot of stuff he just knocks out in the studio on a whim.  But to be completely honest this is the most solid of all of his free albums I've heard so far.  And if this is any indication of what we can expect from his upcoming official, long awaited, highly anticipated, album Statlanta slated for this June, then that one is gonna be a banger well worth the $12.

We had everyone's favorite boxing analyst Snoop EZ in the house hanging out hot off the Floyd Mayweather Sr. interview to talk everything from the tight jeans trend to indie artists.   Although the liquor got us there quicker than we anticipated, all was good.  Although we didn't get to the Stash Box this week, we had Playboy Tre who also threw B.o.B. aka Bobby Ray on the phone for a quick second.  Good show and some GREAT music.

If you've listened to Khalifa in the past you probably understand he has a penchant for a more hipster approach to his music with street tendencies.  I don't mean that in a negative way, if I didn't like the album I wouldnt be sharing it with you guys.  With more rock/pop sounding tracks like "We're Done", Wiz still managed to deliver what seems to be his street alter ego spittin tough on tracks like "The Statement" and "Spotlight".

I like Wiz, not only because he does what he likes and makes good music,  but the fact he gave Warner Bros Records the bird to do his own thing.  Get it Wiz, you've got fans over here.

With the constant flood of free music out there these days, it seems like it's getting increasingly difficult for fans like you and I to find the best stuff in a sea of  shit music floating around the internet.   So I decided to put to gether a list of my Top 5 favorite spots for free hip-hop albums on out there.  Unbiased?  Probably not, but if you check out these sites, you're apt to find a TON of good stuff guilt, lawsuit and RIAA-fine free.  Hope you enjoy it! Freshly dropped a couple days ago, Danny Brown is in my top 5 list for favorite Michigan MC's of all time.  Yeah some of his production is quirky and his flow is real ragged.  But I like that about this dude's music.  Because you can judge him on the surface of things but when you listen to Danny Brown's lyrics, the metaphors he drops in some of these songs are re-goddam-diculous.

Danny Brown, one of my favorites.  We caught him live a while back at the HexMurda benefit last year.  Check the download  link, album stream, cover art and track listing after the jump! Read the rest of this entry »

You know any time we post albums here, we have listened to them front to back and back again.  We don't regurgitate every album we get for the sake of internet traffic or kissin some rapper'ss ass for money or noteriety.  That's not how we do here.  So just know that when you see a free album posted here, it's gonna be something each of likes, appreciates and supports.

When I stumbled across an L.A. MC by the name of  Ayomari, I not only listened to this album from front to back, I listened to it in the whip, at home and on my iPod several, several times.   It's seldom that you find an album these days that's not only free, but also has you thinking to yourself  "damn this is my shit!"  You know that good feeling you get when you hear something for the first time.  The type of music  that you pop in your cd player and show all your friends but don't wanna tell em who it is or where to get it, because it's your "dirty little secret" and nobody else can have it but YOU.  You are the gatekeeper, none shall pass, mine, mine, mine... I will bask in this reflected glory and enjoy letting you hear the song while it plays.  But you just can't have a copy.  I'm in the special music club and you're not invited.

Woooooooooooah.  In December 2009 a listener of the show by the name of Seargant "Chucky Bob", who happens to be serving right now for the US Airforce over in Iraq and Afghanistan, sent us special package from overseas that made our year.

He blessed us with a massive 250 gig hard drive loaded with an insanely expansive music collection ranging with everything from Michael Jackson and the Beastie Boys to Brotha Lynch Hung and Outkast, not to mention an incredible list of "flix" for Phro.

So as a special "thank you"   to the Seargant not only for this incredible gift, but also for putting in work to protect our feeble asses back here in the States, we wanted to dedicate an entire episode to the music and Chucky Bob.   Thank you sir, words cannot express our gratitude for this gift!  Have a listen to the show and enjoy all kinds of music youl would never regularly hear on the show!  Don't forget to drop some notes to Chucky Bob, comment below!!

Also, normally we would liste all the music below.... but we spun so much music with episode, the page would scroll for eternity!  Don't forget you can subscribe for free in iTunes so the show automatically goes to your iPod! Or you can subscribe via Zune Marketplace with your Microsoft Zune!
