This video and song has been out nearly a year and had I known about it a year ago, I would have posted it with just as much enthusiasm as I am now.

I first learned about Ragen Fykes and Grillade dropped the exclusive Big K.R.I.T. collaboration with Grillade, the K.R.I.T. Wuz Here Sessions late last year.  Ever since then, I've been trying to find everything I can that Grillade has released, all the while hoping they would decide to come to Detroit for a show sometime in the near future be blessed to catch them at a random music festival or showcase.

That still has yet to happen.

So until then, I'll continue to replay the very few Grillade tracks I've been able to get my hands on.  And I'll enjoy every second of em.

Inspired by our trip to South By South West this year (catch us down there March 17-20)  we loaded up this episode with music features by artists who will be performing at the festival down in Austin, Texas.  We also got a few minutes to speak with hip-hop coordinator of SXSW and owner of, Matt Sonzala.  We also had Strong Arm Steady's Arms and Hammers on the the lid for blend it or bump it and we mixed up some real delicious #TigerBlood for the stash box.  Hit the notes for the recipe!

If you weren't convinced that K.R.I.T. is a force in today's hip-hop movement you will be after this.  K.R.I.T., re-recorded three tracks from his album K.R.I.T. Wuz Here with the incredibly talented Soul/Funk group Grillade.  Major, huge, incredibly thankful shouts Yours Tru.LY for orchestrating this collaboration.  It's nothing short of an incredible and a great look for hip-hop.

Music like this makes me so happy because it moves the music further away from the mainstream perception that hip-hop is a genre for the young'ns.  Its over 20 years-old and people still suck their teeth at rapping and hip-hop as an acceptable art form.

I now have yet another example to prove them wrong with.

Cop all three tracks K.R.I.T. re-recorded with Grillade for under $4.  And pre-order that vinyl!

I don't wanna blaspheme... fuck it I'm not a religious guy.... Jesus H. Christ I'm so very in love with the way puts together these videos and if they force me to wait any longer to hear this "Grillade Sessions" remix album, my head is going to explode (I'll have Phro send flix). Major props to, I'm a massively respectful fan for life.

Things haven't been the same since K.R.I.T. Wuz Here. Not for Justin Scott and not for yours truly. Seconds after "Something" spun to its end I was sold, hooked, and spent the next two weeks begging K.R.I.T.'s partner, Johnny Shipes, to buy two tickets to San Francisco. I wanted K.R.I.T. to win, and I knew that if people could see his songs come alive in a real studio, with a real band, than they'd be hooked, just like I was. Seconds after Shipes said yes I was begging the best R&B band I knew, Grillade, to volunteer their time to help K.R.I.T. and yours truly see this dream become reality. They said yes, and after a day together at Different Fur Studios, they'd made K.R.I.T. Wuz Here, The Grillade Sessions EP, which yours truly is beyond proud to bring to your computers and turntables soon.
