The whole team was in the basement with special guest MOLA1 to discuss his debut album and plenty of off-the-wall topics as well as a ton of great indie hip-hop.

We had Detroit MC, Mola1 back on the how, reviewed Nas' - Life Is Good, talked old school video games and a ton more. We were so indie this episode, even the drink in this episode's stashbox was independently made!
It's no secret that Detroit is home to some of the most talented artists in the industry that a lot of people aren't too familiar with (yet). But that's not what amazes me about events like this in the D. Every time we visit these events that pull in a mixture of talent and fans from around Detroit to attend and perform, we're incredibly humbled by the amount of love and the general feeling of family we get. Especially when its for a good cause. This event was no exception.
Even though we were hammered with 2-3 inches of snow in the D and the event suffered a few no-show performers, Detroit still paid a very honorable tribute to it's legendary fallen hip-hop hero, J.Dilla.
More footage from some speakers and presentations at the event as well as performances by Danny Brown and the Nick Speed orchestra are yet to come.
Check out Matt's photos from the event in the Event Flix section as well!
Performances by Slum Village, Guilty Simpson, Fat Ray and Moe Dirdee after the jump
Between this and Elzhi's new album, it's good to see Detroit is on track to show the world there's more to Detroit than a white boy who hates his mom.
June 14'th is the day this album is dropping and as for Elzhi, do yourself a favor and download Elmatic, it will make your year.
What up doe?! KetchP aka KetchPhraze (of Street JUSTICE) brought some Detroit/Inkster HEAT on this one. Ketchphraze, Guilty and Xplicit all sound like their voices were made for this Black Milk produced joint.

One of the best hip-hop shows I've seen all year and quite possibly the best hip-hop experience I've had my entire life.
In Episode #122 of the HoodHype show, Major and I had a bit of a conflict when the subject of live hip-hop shows came up. My stance has always been that hip-hop acts just seem to generally lack that feeling you get listening to their albums. They have always lacked any sort of real stage presence and the ability to completely captivate. Let me validate my opinion here. I've seen a few shows. Shows you'd expect to be crazy like Outkast, the Hard Knock Life Tour, Busta Rhymes, Kid Cudi, Jay-Z & Eminem etc etc etc. And while they all were entertaining, they always seemed like they were missing a lot. Overblown vocals, an emotionless, straight-faced DJ and a giant LED screen can only go so far, know what I mean? Read the rest of this entry »
Here's some more Detroit sheeeit featuring Guilty Simpson's set from Black Milk's Big Band show last October.
What up Doe!? Check out this lil heat rock from Astro's "A Brilliant Soul", Guilty outshined the dude on his stuff lol. Today is going to be a real interesting year for independent music.

Uh-oh,.... what's this?! More Detroit music?! Contrary to some people's opinions we are aware that hip-hop exists outside of the 313, but until the rest of the Mitten matches the output of hot tracks/videos we will continue to give the D the shine it deserves. Gutter track by the way.
It must be Detroit day here. Here a video I just spotted over at 2DBZ with Black Milk talking about his releases coming for 2010 as well as some behind-the-scenes studio footage. My favorite. That Random Axe has some serious potential. Can't wait for that.
