We're back with Phro in the building at our "other" basement this episode. We checked out Kendrick Lamar's new album, paid up on some post-A3C debt (Major having his Mayo shot and all our in-show shout outs) and as always, we spun some great independent hip-hop.
Inspired by our trip to South By South West this year (catch us down there March 17-20) we loaded up this episode with music features by artists who will be performing at the festival down in Austin, Texas. We also got a few minutes to speak with hip-hop coordinator of SXSW and owner of AustinSurreal.com, Matt Sonzala. We also had Strong Arm Steady's Arms and Hammers on the the lid for blend it or bump it and we mixed up some real delicious #TigerBlood for the stash box. Hit the notes for the recipe! What up doe?! Here's a single I didn't think we'd get to hear unless we bought it on wax. Coupled with another one of her singles "Emergence" Invincible is back with the infamous Waajeed with more music supporting the home team with a positive message.
"Locusts" is still one of my favorite Incinvible joints of all time.
Detroit based Hip-Hop artists Invincible and Finale rhyme about the impacts of gentrification on the Motor City. This piece includes interviews with community activists discussing displacement and predatory planning versus sustainable development in the D.
Both the song and video for "Locusts" by Invincible feat. Finale, (produced by DJ House Shoes) are from Invincible's debut album Shapeshifters available on www.EMERGENCEmusic.net and www.bling47.com).
Detroit's Invincible comes through with a dope, artistic, thought provoking video. Many props to this woman as she is one of the most socially active artists/people I know. Much love Invincible.
