We're back with Phro in the building at our "other" basement this episode. We checked out Kendrick Lamar's new album, paid up on some post-A3C debt (Major having his Mayo shot and all our in-show shout outs) and as always, we spun some great independent hip-hop.
It seemed we were cursed by the technical difficulty demons this episode, but we still pulled through it. With the recent news of Osama bin Laden's death we strayed from hip-hop a little and spent quite a bit of time discussing cosnpiracy theories as well as trying to debunk them. BIG shouts to Illingsworth from Detroit CYDI for the #TeamMayo theme song!
Phro was out but that didn't stop us from having a great show! We had Jesse the ghost writer from Rap Rebirth for a quick interview, we jumped in the Stash Box, checked out DJ Quik's The Book of David for Blend It or Bump It and got into a heated debate over the Beastie Boys.
Wild show this week. Discussing your favorite tracks to swoon the females, racial stereotyping on t.v., trannies (yeah trannies) a lot of great music, blend it or bump it and a lot more.
LIVE @ Atlanta's Masquerade, which happens to be the same spot they host the A3C Hip-Hop Festival every year. Completely missed out on Kendrick's show last night at the Shelter in Detroit with Nesby and Schoolboy Q, so this will do until people start dropping some footage from the event.
I have to be completely honest, until recently I didn't put a whole lot into listening to Kendrick. I'd hear singles here and there but never took the time to get the albums he put out. Glad I did though, the guy is definitely putting out music outside the norm... and it's good. Jay West and Phips have been on the radar for a while already. Who are you following right now?
Who was spittin the hardest on this session? I gotta go withGibbs, who just slightly edged out Jay Rock and Pill , who did his thing, but it sounded like he went almost 100% off the head. Honorable mention to Lamar and Armeretta. Props to OnSmash for the footage
