I had a hard time trying to write this post because we're kind of close to this project, not creatively, but more on a personal, empathetic level.  We know these guys personally, and I wanted to write an unbiased post with no slant whatsoever because that's what we try to do here (that's partially a lie).  But that wouldn't be honest to you guys or .KOM. Weezy's Jeggings and HoodHype's Road to A3C were the talk of the show among other things like the VMA's the Stash Box and the Lil Wayne's Carter IV was on the chopping block!

We were without Phro this week (he's off on a beach somewhere in the Caribbean), but that doesn't mean we can't still chill in the basement with our friends .KOM aka Kingz Of The Mic.  Joka and T.O.  kicked back and had a few Capri Suns with us while we talked everything from "what's real" in hip-hop to 9th Wonder's 5-year theory (you gotta tune in to find out what that means).  We also had a surprise call from Memphis, Tennessee's own Skewby. A damn fine time, make sure you check out your boys .KOM on Twitter and a big congrats goes out to Phro for tying the knot with his girl!  Read the rest of this entry »

.KOM is putting in all kinds of work out of the cap city here in Michigan.  Rediculous video for a hot track from their free album.  Creative and focused as hell, look out for .KOM on Twitter and MySpace, these dudes are something else.

Here's a track you won't find on the free mixtape they released a while back.  Joka sent a link with this track over to me a week or so ago and said this was a track they weren't sure people would like.  So they put some random footage to it and posted it on youtube and sent it over.

My opinion, this is one of the hardest tracks I've heard from .KOM and it makes me wanna hear what else they have in their secret arsenal that they aren't sharing.   With the right machine behind em, these guys really have the talent to really blow up and put Lansing, MI on the map.  Heat.

Our first in-house guests, we had .KOM (Kingz Of The Mic) in the house with us to discuss the New Year, Funk Flex's rude twitter comments, the Jay-Z freemason conspiracy theory, some freestyles and a whole lot more.  Not to mention a really interesting interview with Slaughterhouse's West Coast counterpart, Crooked I.  Don't forget you can subscribe for free in iTunes so the show automatically goes to your iPod! Or you can subscribe via Zune Marketplace with your Microsoft Zune!

Coming out of Michigan's cap city and produced by fellow Lansing native Needlz, Perm handled business on this joint!   Between the dudes we had on the last show @KingzOfTheMic and Big Perm (who happens to be one of the latest artists on The Aphiliates roster), Lansing, Michigan may very well be about to pop on the hip-hop map.

Keep your eyes open for that "Guilty By Aphilliation" mixtape over at

On last night's recording of episode #104 of the HoodHype show Phro was out and we had the duo .KOM in the basement to chill with us, talk their music and chat with everyone in the chat.  To be honest, it took me a bit to get used to the idea of two new people being in the basement this episode (Major already knows these dudes, but we ended up having a great time with Joka (as I'd pronounce it JokER) and The One (aka T.O.) .  At the end of the show, the people on Smoothbeats and UStream chat were demanding a freestyle and .KOM delivered.  My opinion, this is the type of act that a label needs.  Raw talent, charisma and an obvious passion for what they do.  Check out the results of last night's show below.

This is the first official project from .KOM(Kingz of the Mic), who are from my hometown Lansing, MI. These dudes are young, but they have a TON of talent and even more potential. They've been grinding trying to put this project together, so I'm more than happy to post this up and help them spread the word. The album features 25 tracks of original material, which is hard to find on most free albums. So please, take the time to download it and leave these dudes some feedback on twitter or myspace. I'm including two of my favorite cuts below.

.KOM - "Closer"

.KOM - "Downtown Hollywood"
