We went to experience Big K.R.I.T.'s Live From the Underground Tour kickoff in Detroit with opening acts Coldmen Young, Jon Connor, Casey Veggies, Big Sant and Tito Lopez. Here are some photos courtesy of our friend Matt from TDH Photography who went with us. JMack also takes you on a brief audio tour of the show in episode #177 of the HoodHype show check it out here.
Detroit mainstay, (and guy I see at EVERY St. Andrew's Hip-Hop show) Marv Won taking all you terrible rappers to church for two straight minutes. Sit up, put your hands up, confess and repent your sins.
Keep your eyes peeled for more from these guys from us. I was late to the party, heard them on WDET, did a little homework and uncovered a gold mine.
On our way to the Detroit Electronic Music festival, we caught word (via Twitter) that Bun B, Eve, David Hasselhoff, the Dudesons, and a ton of other celebs were coming through in their super luxury and sports whips for the Gumball 3000 rally.

I've been to some independent hip-hop events over the years and experienced quite a few performances.  After your first few, you start to realize how tough it is for an artist to be heard let alone move a crowd of people who are there to see the headlining act, which a lot of times, is also independent.
As a fan of the music, it's easy to get burnt out. Between the rappers devoid of emotion who pace the stage with a blank stare and so-called "artists" who open for label acts but seem to lack any sort of passion, it is very easy to get burnt out and never visit an indie show again. All too often, I'll see and hear stories about artists who have been in the "business" for a long time and tend stay below the radar. Sometimes intentionally, sometimes not. Whichever the case is for The Definition is irrelevant because these guys are easily one of Detroit's best kept secrets.  Made up of a drummer, bass guitarist, a keyboardist, a classically trained electric cellist (yes, thats right) and hard hitter spitter MC front man (Mola1), these guys are known for their crazy shows, that a lot of times, will outperform the acts they open for....
If you're in the metro-Detroit area, you would be crazy to miss this show at the Crofoot in Pontiac with The Definition, Detroit's Paradime and headliner Action Bronson this Friday (5/25). Make sure you support that REAL indie hip-hop and buy some tickets to this show! We'll definitely be in the house too!
Also, front man MOLA1 will be LIVE on the show with us tonight!

What can I say about him? Black Milk is by far one of the best indie stage acts out there right now for this simple reason: he entertains. That's a lot more than you can say for most artists out there who think they should be able to get on stage, rap and be paid. If you're familiar with Black Milk's music then when you hear these songs, you understand how much of a change up and work went into stepping up this show for his fans. Watch what happens at the 4:00 and the 5:20 mark. Crazy. At one point the drummer, Zeb Horton snaps a drum stick (he did 3 times that night) and keeps rollin with it.
If the Claps and Slaps Tour is coming to your town, you'd be missing out huge if you didn't check it out. Incredibly good show if you're music nerds like us or if you just wanna get down. #supportindiehiphop !!
