The 90′s were my golden era, as everyone’s high school and college years usually are. The Fresh Prince of Bel Aire, Nintendo (aka NES), Saved By The Bell, Michael Jordan and Used Jeans. The 90′s were also a revolutionary time for rap music, so I can’t help but feel nostalgic when I hear music that reminds me of my younger years. For that reason, I’m absolutely a fan of hip-hop’s “Golden Era” by default. That isn’t the only reason however. Especially when most rap music we hear on the radio today sounds cheap and superficial by comparison to music from that era. Does that mean we’re “trapped in the 90′s”? In order to answer that, allow me to qualify the question by explaining its origin.

We’ve been producing the HoodHype show for nearly six years.  Six years of a hell of a lot of fun, incredible music and inspiration to all of us.   I’m also very proud to say we’ve got the greatest listeners ever.  Whenever we’ve called on you guys, you’ve been there for us.  Whether it’s for a good laugh when we’re live, a motivational email from a listener battling personal issues or helping us get to A3C Hip-Hop Festival in 2011.  Which brings me to the reason I’m writing this post.

A3C Hip-Hop Festival is back and it’s going to be better than ever.  Some incredible headliners, more amazing independent talent and all kinds of opportunities to network and build the HoodHype show.  Haven’t heard of it? Check out the festival for yourself, you probably would want to go to this (click here)

This year, we need your help.  Because we don’t sell the show and we don’t really do much in terms of riddling the show with advertising, we don’t have much scratch to get us from Detroit to Atlanta to stay for two days.   So what we’ve done is started a KickStarter Campaign over at http://hoodhype.com/donate where you can buy all kinds of cool custom HoodHype gear (custom collab t-shirts, pint glasses, skateboard deck, mixtape, blu-ray of the adventure and more), and by purchasing it, you’re helping to contribute to send us to A3C.

We’re trying to raise $1500.00,  we actually need to raise 2000.00 but we set the bar to $1500.00 so we can at least complete the funding.  The money will be used to first, get all of the custom merchandise made and shipped to you, and the profit we make will go toward travel from Detroit to Atlanta and a room for us to stay (we can buy our own food and drinks, but thanks for offering).

What do we plan at doing at A3C?
I swear to God, thinking about all this gets me excited, I hope you guys get just as excited!  We want to film as much as we possibly can for the two of the three days we’ll be there, we have already planned an amazing gaming lounge with KonsoleKingz which will include a LIVE episode of HoodHype recording at an indie record store (how cool is that?!), we want to do as many interviews as we can fit into the time we’re there and anything else we can think of on the fly.  It’s all about us going down, experiencing it and bringing as much of it as we can back to you guys.

As of today, we’re just over 80% funded and we only have 6 days left to complete it, we can’t do it without your help! If we don’t raise the money we don’t go and we all lose!

So if you can spare a few bucks to help us get to A3C, head on over to http://hoodhype.com/donate and we promise we’ll work our asses off to bring you back something outstanding and amazing!

Thank you for 6 years of f****g awesome.
